Robert Romie Haskins, 65, of 3560 Grapevine Rd., Halifax, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.

Mr. Haskins was born October 12, 1943, the son of Ashley Andrew Haskins and Sadie Peace Haskins. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from Halifax Community College as the Maintenance Director.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean Armstrong Haskins; three daughters, Teresia H. Benjamin and her husband, Fred, of Evans, PA, Vara Haskins and her friend, Russell Ferrell, of Halifax and Kimberly Haskins of the home; three grandchildren, William Ferrell, Brittany Ferrell and Sarah Benjamin; two sisters, Ruby Conner of Roanoke Rapids and Kay Horn and her husband, David, of Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Steve Formo officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 10, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Haskins' service to his country.
